POC has just revealed its brand new Octal X Spin helmet, looking to target the cross country rider who is looking for a lightweight, aero helmet, that doesn't compromise safety. The new helmet has been designed from the same technology as the award-winning Octal Road. It focuses on extreme ventilation, low weight, unibody shell construction and aerodynamic efficiency. You have the option between three colours, Blue, Matte Black, and Orange. However, the Octal X isn't cheap with a price tag of $325. In my opinion the most important thing to spend your money on is a helmet, as a hit to the side of a rock or ground is a quick way to never be able to ride again! The engineers have thought about everything when designing this product. The back of the helmet provides plenty of protection for the rider, without comprising air flow. On the back there is also two strips of LED reflectors. Essentially when a vehicles light's hit it, they will immediately light up, making them instantly aware of your presence.
Moving along to the top, there is a new piece of technology installed on it. The Recco Reflector is a new signalling device that could one day save your life. The reflector doesn't require any batteries to operate and doesn't need to be turned on or off! Essentially, if you are ever lost or not able-bodied to get out of the forest, you can be tracked through you helmet. When a a receiver (usually on a helicopter) flys' above, they will be able to know where you are, so emergency personnel can get to you. The front of the helmet is equipped with an 'eye garage' as an easy way to store you eyewear, when you aren't whipping down the trail! The Octal X is incredibly light and comfortable on the trail. One day, I got back from my ride and walked around in it for 30 minutes, before noticing it was still on - its that comfortable!
In conclusion, this helmet is definitely perfect for the cross country rider looking for a helmet with lots of protection, without compromising air flow. I would highly recommend checking out POC's new Octal X Spin!
